Zachariah is in his late twenties. He comes from a nearby village called Nkwabeng. His old grandmother was alone in looking after him but has disappeared since he came to work with our donkeys in the community. So he is now fully part of our family as he has no relatives left. He has a smile that can melt the most hardened of us. He is tall, strong and yet as gentle as a sweet bird of youth. He enjoys sitting alone in front of a certain pillar, eating, with all the many dogs around him. St. Francis couldn’t do any better! He is one of the very few who spontaneously likes to share his food with animals…and even with other kids sometimes. He does not speak but seems to understand and sometimes enjoys holding hands. Zachariah is the gentleman of our community. |
