Kwame: If you hear a stirring song on the premises of Hand in Hand it is likely to come from nobody but Kwame. He can drum all day long on whatever is available; a wooden table, an empty bottle of mineral water, or even on his own legs. When Kofi Asare plays the grace song on his drums, Kwame is almost on top of it, hoping to play someday himself. Kwame also adores ring tones of mobile phones and loves dancing and singing. Kwame is fascinated by light. He always looks at burning lights or at the reflection of sunrays on the water. Kwame can also squeeze his eyes and look straight into the sun. His newest hobby is studying all the colors on the computer screen. He almost clings with his nose to the screen. Kwame also tries to talk but with difficulty. He can indicate if he is hungry or thirsty. He can also answer with a happy or sad sound if you ask him how he is doing. Kwame loves to play football and other games. He also loves attention, but can be upset if he has to share the attention with others. Kwame does not mind slapping or kicking someone to drive that person away so that he does not have to share the attention anymore. His caregiver once said when asked what Kwame had learned that year: "Kwame now knows how to insult other people." However he never holds a grudge and over time his jealousy is already quickly reducing. |
