Innocencia

Innocencia If somewhere at the community you hear singing 'Hallelujah' there is a distinct possibility that Innocencia is around. Inno (as she is affectionately called) does not talk, but she loves to sing, and especially during parties.
Innocencia has lived at the Hand in Hand Community for many years. Her legs as well as the right side of her body are paralyzed. She is deeply mentally handicapped and suffers from epilepsy. So Inno sits in a wheelchair and sings if she gets a chance. Innocencia has many mood swings; some of them delightful when she shows a beautiful smile on her face, some of them distressing when in frustration she bangs her head against the wheelchair or the ground. It has taken a long time to find the right caregiver for Innocencia, as at first people were afraid of her because of her frequent epileptic fits, despite medication, and also because she often cried and had no ability to smile or even have eye contact with people. No wonder, she has been rejected by her mother, not treated well at the home where she came from and at our home too it took long before we found the woman who really could give her love. Now she is starting to flourish and with her beautiful smiles start returning the love she received.
